In the Line of Fire

Evening Edition VOLUME XXXII February 24th, 2001

Out, Out Brief Candle
by Lone Gunman
Prince Recoil made Faynt his General. And the Nosferatu Elder accomplished what at one time seemed impossible—repair the shroud and save all that we know. There was help in the form of Chancellor Ahab von Soze, giant squid killer. And Mr. Whitfrey, the kindly, old fart Giovanni with profound knowledge of the occult and the Shadowlands. There was Lord Byron—expert in Latin. And so many others. And also the Mighty Warrior of Good—Falstaff Jennings. Known to the Opera World as St. John Smith (pronounced Sin Jin) the great tenor gave the performance of his unlife singing the Latin chants…the crowd was entranced and followed suit and the ritual was given its necessary energy. But there was a lone gunman in the audience who fired again and again ravaging Falstaff (who could not heal for fear of breach) and yet he kept singing while giving little indication of the attack or the pain and he slowly, agonizingly made his way behind Fortress Lord Byron. But then a shot struck Falstaff in the head, tearing away large chunks of bone and brain matter. He had to fake collapse due to trauma at that point, but after being carried away continued singing via remote mike. The next evening Falstaff came home (after so many agonizing months away) to San Francisco to a hero’s welcome at his beloved Sire Prince Jenning’s palatial estate—overlooking the bay. And it was openly discussed by his friends that Falstaff should receive the status Famous throughout the Camarilla. But one could discern just a touch of sadness in his overly quick grin. A far off look in his magnetic blue eyes. For Falstaff knew that even as he was being praised, those at the highest level in the Camarilla were debating his fate. Was his continued existence too big a threat to the Masquerade (despite Father Natasha’s noble efforts to help) now that he was "assassinated" Kennedy style? Or should he just never be allowed to pursue his passion of performing in the great opera houses again—the only thing that made him feel human? He excused himself from the party early and went to his favorite den, expensive cigar and brandy in hand, put on Jonothan’s bowler hat and laughed at the irony that some call him savior, and then read the reviews of his past operas, and sang his finale to a nonexistent audience, one that only existed in memory.

One More Wraith Thing...
by Ghost in the Machine
As the final note was sang, as the final word was spoken, a reversal of fortune cast Victor Giovanni's plans into oblivion. However, this was not the only tear in the shroud. Our brothers of the East open a portal in thier own sanctum. Dr. Daniel Collins and Corvin(Tremere) are spearheading the investigation into the Kai-Jin .

The Sacramento Shadow's
KINDRED QUOTE OF THE WEEK

The further splintering of our city is disappointing at best, are things in this city not bad enough that you must seek your deaths so intently?

Books and the Written War
by Ghost in the Machine
Nearly one year ago, The Tremere chantry in San Francisco was ordered to be destroyed by the Toreador Justicar. Rare books were removed from the chantry with the Justicars' authority. The Tremere in Vienna are demanding the return of these books. The warlocks in Sacramento are under a death sentence no matter which way they go. Will a settlement be reached by the March 3 deadline? Time will tell.

Harpy?
by Les B. Inn
Since our friend Mr. De La Torre left, the city of Sacramento has been without a harpy. It is a surprise that a position most needed for Sacramento is not filled by now. Maybe after the ranting of the former Tyler Duran the Kindred here are a little scared to take on such a task of updating and documenting all of the kindred that seem to happen to walk threw. One sucker up for the position of Harpy is Georgia Chase of Clan Toreador. While some say her social skills are will adapt other say her attendance to court has been rather lame. Another prime candidate for this drab position is Mr. Falstaff Jennings also of Clan Toreador. But, with his most recent Kennedy shooting is he up to the mental and social strain of dealing with the ignorant childish kindred? We shall soon find out.

3 Strikes or is that 4?
by U. M'Pyre
Cameron could not keep them out of trouble. Neither could Feather. Mekhet did not last long at all...but was it really his fault? And now there is Gavin...the self proclaimed Tremere Primogen. The most disturbing thing that happened on Saturday night, wasn't really the wraith issue, no it was how the Tremere reacted to the wraith issue. When Prince Recoil asked the Tremere their business...Gavin, with smug and childish demeanor replied, "I guess the Wraith thing got solved...cool". With callous feeling towards the issue, a city can only wonder if the Tremere can be even trusted with city meetings to determine city decisions.

Where For Art Thou Keeper?
by Sheraton Love
As stated by the Camarilla 101 Keeper of Elysium is "A Kindred in charged with maintaining the peace at Elysium gatherings." Sounds like an important position? Well it is and especially with all the thoughtless acts of violence and backstabbing going on in Sacramento. But our Keeper of Elysium Alexander Soze of Clan Ventrue has not seemed to be present at closing court the past couple of gatherings. Hopefully he is attending to business.
