The Death of a Ventrue
Evening Edition VOLUME 39 April 21st, 2001
A Fine Gentleman Was He
by Falstaff Jennings
In a city of mostly poorly dressed neonates, boorish ancillae, and pretend Elders, Mr. Soze stood out as a dignified, fascinating, courageous, civilized, and dashing Ventrue Elder. Though a man of peace to the very depth of his soul, he was not above giving a good spear gun drubbing to incredibly foul smelling giant squids…in the cause of right. Time and time again Alexander "The Suit" Soze used his influence to protect the interests of the Camarilla and rightly besmirch it’s enemies. But most important whatever Herr Soze did, he did with…style. Soze Style. True Style. No serial besmircher, Chancellor Soze treated all kindred with the respect they earned, but never less than that required from a gentleman. And what a noble presence did he possess. And a man of great vision and purpose was he. Above petty politics, then Prince Soze and Sir Winston had acted as true patrons of the arts and were set to usher in a Renaissance in art and culture in Sacramento. That dream, no doubt, is sadly and finally put to rest, with the great Elders passing. Mr. Soze, no doubt some Sacramento Kindred will mock you now that you have passed on. It is to be expected, because honor is something foreign to most in that a cursed city. But to me, you were like the Chancellor I never had. And I do not have the words to describe what it meant to have, however briefly, a mentor of your grace, intelligence, and wisdom to spend precious moments with and to learn from. Some hate me so much as to wish me destroyed and I am many things, but I was never a sunshine patriot nor a fair weather friend. You and Sir Winston (before his tragic and blameless fall from grace at the hands of a bane spirit) were my greatest hope for Sacramento. And with my Sire the great Prince Jennings in topor, it is truly a world turned upside down. I fear an endgame is afoot. Come what may, it was my great honor to have known both you and Sir Winston. I will never forget you, nor what you meant to me. Goodbye Sir Winston. And goodbye Chancellor. Your curse is now lifted. And that gives me some comfort in my utter sadness and overwhelming despair.

Sign Posts Ahead
by Ghost in the Machine
One year ago, a caitiff sat on the throne of Sacramento. This was one of the signs of Gehenna. On Saturday night, that same Caitiff led a contingent of Kindred to South America. Kid Wiz, a mage, transported E-gad and his group to find Moriah Wyrmbane and stop him from fulfilling another segment of Gehenna. The path followed led to the frozen wastes of Antartica. Moriah was found chained and bound by links forged of pure sunlight. Moriah appeared to be on the verge of pure frenzy when he broke free of his restraints. Friday, E-gad, Barbara Moore and others succeeded in calming Wyrmbane down. A Werebear appeared before everyone, informing them that in order to give Wrymbane final release, some or all must be willing to sacrifice themselves to save Moriah and the world as a whole. Several were willing to give it all. However, the choice was taken away as another Power entered the arena of choice. Three stones representing the forces of the Wyrm, Weaver and Giai appeared. Tinsel decided to lean on the Stone of the 'Wyrm nearly causing the reset of all our lives. A werespider managed to avert disaster. In the final minutes, everyone decided the Weaver Stone should be destroyed. What will happen now is anyones guess.

Butts Again
by Abby Normal
It is well known that Seymour Buttcrack of clan Brujah, recently missing is now known to be dead. E-Gad Sheriff of Sacramento has vowed to avenge his death by seeking out the kindred(s) who did this and giving justice. The first evidence pointed to the Tremere being the whole incident was due to their books, but after a intense investigation of the clan there is proof the Tremere do not have any information regarding his death. Which leads to the fact that it was someone else not in the Tremere clan did the crime. Dora Sinclair Primogen of Clan Brujah has begun an investigation of her own clan, while incorporating the Tremere in finding any clues to who might have done this to avoid any conflict between E-gad and the Tremere. If anyone has any information about Seymour Buttcracks death please contact Dora Sinclair or E-gad immediately.

The Sabbat and You
by Havoc Thorne
Have you ever wondered why the Sabbat want your un-life? The answer is quite simple; they want your soul. Ya see, if they drain your soul, they can get your power on top of it. Now, if you happed to be close ta Caine than they are... pop, they become closer. All they want is ta have fun, kick ass, and take names along tha way. Now ya ask, why? Well, it all began a long time ago during something called the Anarch Rebellion. It is because of this that the Inquisition came into being, but that's another story. Now, The Anarch Rebellion came around because some young upstarts decided they did not like the way their elders were running things. One thing led to another, then BAMM, blood fest. This raged for a bit, and was finally put down. Now some of these young upstarts decided to come back into the fold that became the Camarilla, while those other bad boys and girls went to cause havoc, calling themselves the Sabbat. It is because of this little Rebellion that the Traditions were put into effect. We of the Camarilla follow these rules, some closer than others; while the Sabbat believe in self gratification. Ohh yeah, and also suckin' down Elders. The next question you may ask is why weren't they stomped from the beginning? Well ya see, most parents have a soft spot for their children, an we ain't no different. Sooo because of a few bad apples, the Sabbat has become a thorn in the side of the Camarilla for generations, and they want ta get closer ta daddy.

Ghouls
by Crazie Jane
I spent two centuries of my existence as a ghoul. I know all there is to being one. I felt all the emotions that a ghoul feels. From experience I tell you that your own ghoul or ghouls can be your worst nightmare come true. They will know more about you than you know about yourself. They will know most of your secrets. They will know your haven's location. Ghouls can still go out in the day. If you think you got total control then you are either overconfident or the ghoul is a breathing zombie. How you treat your ghoul can determine how he or she reacts. Ghouls are humans who are hyped on your blood. Your blood affects these poor bastards in ways few realize. There have been more than one ghoul that was involved in a murder/suicide with their regnant because how obsessed the ghoul had become. Humans have been known to murder the ones they love. The false love of vampire blood can push a ghoul over the edge. Then there is the Tradition of Accounting. Yes Virginia, there are Princes that will put a vampire to final death for a ghoul's misdeeds. If you ghoul commits a tradition break you are liable. What a great way for a ghoul to kill him/herself and take you with him/herself. Ghouls are most useful. But they are still human. In handling of ghouls are no set rules except treat with care. But you cannot be lax with your ghoul. Having a ghoul is a tremendous responsibility as well as a valuable tool.

The Past, Present, & Future
by Crazie Jane
There are many young vampires {under fifty years} who prefer to live in the "here & now". There do not worry or care about "there & then". As far as some go: the world began when they were born and anything prior to embracement is ancient history. Most are not that bad. It is unfortunate that these young vampires now reside in the Camarilla. The Camarilla is a relic. All its ideology, etiquette, and social agendas come from pre-Anarch Revolt I. The elders that compose the Camarilla's Inner Circle are set in their ways and ferociously determine not to change. Vampirism causes much stagnation of the soul. There way to many elders who are afraid of technology. Some are so afraid that they will have killed any younger vampire that uses a cell phone in their vicinity. For any vampire that are citizens of the Camarilla, "there & then" is often more important than "here & now". But "here & now" soon becomes "there & then". I can count centuries of existence as a ghoul and as a vampire. The world of darkness we live in is vast and vicious. To survive one needs to know the past. The past does matter soon it will be the future. Actions and words taken this night will be remembered in the future. To understand the relationships between clans are one must look to "there & then". To understand the Sabbat one must look to "there & then". To forget is "there & then", you will relive it in the "here & now". And the future is built upon "there & then".No, he's just on the outside looking in, and Saturday night Sacramento Malkavians met to discuss whether to keep him that way. One week after a meeting between Happi Goluki, and a number of local Malkavians, the clan met in closed-door session, and, after extensive debate, the clan decided to local deal with its mayhem itself, with fond thanks and farewells to the Cult of Happiness.

There is No U in Community
by Phil O’Sophy
Frequently we are lectured about our responsibility to the Camarilla, to the city, to other kindred. We are told that combined, out strengths will allow us to conquer any enemy. Only united can we overcome our weaknesses and survive, or so we are taught. Yet simultaneously we are instructed to revel in our individuality. Our elders show us that trusting is a sure way to get a knife in your back. The Anarchs refute all authority for fear of sacrificing the slightest amount of freedom; the clans and sects boil with intrigue on the verge of war. To work together requires trust, self sacrifice, and a willingness to work as a team. Of course, you have to do all of that while expecting your trust to be betrayed, while in anticipation that your sacrifice will be in vain, and without turning your back on your allies. To honor your community, you must have the faith to believe that your peers are attempting to do the same. Most find that their faith leaves them dead. So tell me, do you have enough faith to join the community?

Are they crazy?
by Darwin Lives
Well, it seems that Sacramento is to witness some Darwinism in action in 2 weeks. Several of the brujah are going to open a gate to hell and enter in order to find some "magical Weapons." Is this a good idea...I think not? Do you actually think that you can trust the Quijin to keep their end of this bargain? What turnip truck did you fall out of? Being naive has never been an excuse for stupidity and never will be. Understand that we are no match for what inhabits the nether realms and you are risking those who call this city home as well as yourselves. I urge you to call off this outrageous idea for not only your own safety but those who also dwell here.

Who Killed Clan Salubri?
by Crazie Jane
Salubri, a name that is almost as hated as Baali. According to Clan Tremere, "Clan Salubri are/where soul sucking infernalists". There is evidence that says otherwise. Despite what the truth is/was about what really were the Salubri, the point is Clan Tremere's destruction of Clan Salubri was not a lone venture. To begin with Clan Tzimisce was doing their best to eliminate the usurpers of vampirism. Clan Tzimisce was a superpower back then. So how could this fledgling clan do the deed? They convinced others to either aid them or got others to do the deed for them. And why would hoary elders do such a thing for fledglings? To answer that one must accept Clan Tremere's reasons or flatly reject them. Evidence has shown that the Salubri were healers and noble warriors. There are accounts on how several Salubri advocated Golconda. Clan Tremere's reasons are to pat, one to many infernal loving clan. But then why? The answer is because those with absolute power do not like having a moral voice of consciousness. The evidence present and researched I have witnessed tells the tale of Clan Salubri being that voice. At the time it was common for many vampires to be three hundred plus years. Many elders at that time had long forgotten their humanity. Ancilla & neonates were eager to please their elders. The Salubri were preachers of peace. They were seekers of Golconda. They had a great respect for human life. Many vampires who sought power did not want to be hampered with a conscience. It was like the Republicans of the extreme right listening to the advice of the most liberal, bleeding heart Democrat while plotting the return of slave labor. Why had they not earlier wiped out these annoying pests? Could it be according to a fragment from "The Book of Nod" that the Antediluvian Saulot was Cain's favorite? Thus the clan leaders feared the wrath of Cain? Or simply the Salubri had many friends or they were not that annoying? No matter why not before, once started it snowballed. And soon it seems everyone was out on the hunt. Now it is the twenty-first century. And the hunt goes on, why? For Clan Tremere they have their reasons. But for others, the guilt of genocide may need to be replaced with a feeling of justification for the deeds? Whatever reasons non-Tremere clans have they continue the hunt. If you come across a Salubri, treat him/her with respect. Then sell that poor bastard out to Clan Tremere. And the Tremere will owe you big.
