A Neonate's Guide to the Shadows
Tips For Better Gaming

Tunes
Ever have that song come on the radio that just gets you going? Or pisses you off? Or makes you remember the time when...? Well, why not use that to your advantage when roleplaying? Through my experiences with Live Action I have found music to get me in the mood of the character that I have chosen to play. Here are some examples of music that might just help you "enhance roleplaying" in Vampire: The Masquerade Live Action Game (According to Clan):

Brujah - Korn, Metallica, White Zombie, Static X, Disturbed, Luxt
Gangrel - Credence Clearwater Revivial, Lynard Skynard, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Grateful Dead, etc.
Nosferatu - Phantom of the Opera, Classical, Industrial Rock, etc.
Malkavian - Weird Al, Dr. Demento's Greatest Hits, Beck, etc.
Toreador - Celine Dion, Enya, Yanni, Clannad, Orbital, etc.
Tremere - Danzig's "Black Aria", Soundtrack to "The Craft", etc.
Ventrue - Assorted Symphony, Solo Pianists, etc.

Nature and Demeanor
Your nature and demeanor define who you are. Nature is the way your character thinks. Demeanor is the way that you act. Try to select the nature and demeanor that is easiest for you to roleplay. For example, do not choose the demeanor "Bravo", if you are a introverted and very shy individual. "Loner" would probably be more suitable for you. And vice versa.
Also, get in to your character, if it takes carrying around a teddy bear, or dressing the part, do it. Not for others, but to help you enhance your roleplaying. It makes it easier not only for you, but your fellow gamers as well.

Avoid Breaking Out of Character
It is really tough to stay in character, but rewarding when you can. Try to avoid situations that would cause you to break character. Now sometimes it is inevitable and and you can't do anything about it. Nature will call, or your mom or significant other will wonder where the hell you are. Other than that just do your best to stay in "game mode". If someone talks to you "out of character", tell them that you will talk to them later, again if it is not important. Real life comes first.

Nobody Likes a "Rules Lawyer"
You know who they are. Something does not go the right way for them, so they argue and bitch about it. There is a better solution then yelling. First, consult a narrator, if they can't help you or the problem is with them, consult the head storyteller. They will gladly try to work with you to make the game better for you. And if it is changed or ruled in your favor, then it was quiet and did not disturb the game. But if it isn't just make sure that you remember that ruling in the future to avoid another problem later.

It's Not All In The Numbers
Avoid depending solely on your stats. There have been many an occasion where I have seen roleplayers who started out with the weakest of characters, numbers wise, but have turned into a powerful characters. Not by dumping tons of experience into there character and boosting up their numbers, but by roleplaying. For example, She was a 13th Generation Ventrue, with three physical traits, five social traits, and seven mental traits. A wuss. Any Malkavian could have kicked her ass. However, by having loyal allies, gaining support, and making herself known. She became Prince of the City. She didn't have time to get with a storyteller and pump up her abilities, yet, she became a Prince.

Just Have Fun
People are going to make you mad. People are going to outright piss you off. If they are cheating. If they are arguing constantly with narrators. Or just a general nuissance. Remember it is only a game. Games are synonymous with "fun". Just have fun.
